Overview

Clinical Topics
Diagnosis, Identification, Primary Care, and Treatment

With antimicrobial resistance and cost of healthcare skyrocketing, we need antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship programs more than ever. While physicians and pharmacists have been the key players in stewardship programs, nurses have often been left out. Because nurses spend the most time with patients and are already involved in many stewardship activities, it is time to ensure their involvement. This module describes stewardship programs and reviews how nurses can become more actively involved.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe risks associated with antimicrobial use
  • Review antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship programs
  • Outline the role of nurses in stewardship programs
