Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA

About The Unit

The General Medical and Surgical units provide care for a diverse patient population with varying diagnoses, including:

• Chronic illnesses: COPD, Diabetes, CHF, End-stage renal disease
• Gastrointestinal issues: Pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, inflammatory bowel diseases
• Infections: Pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, C. diff
• Neurological conditions: Stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries
• Mental health disorders: Depression, anxiety, substance abuse
  
  

Patients may also undergo procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, incision & drainage, biopsies, amputations).

General Job Duties & Skills Required

• Comprehensive patient assessments and care planning
• Interdisciplinary communication and documentation in Epic EMR
• IV therapy management, including insulin and heparin drips
• Wound vac management, feeding tube and pump management, chest tube care
• Use of IV pumps, telemetry monitoring, SCDs, and other supportive equipment
• Medication administration and patient education
  
  

Requirements

• Minimum 1.5 years of experience in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary facility
• At least 1 year of experience in a similar-sized facility (600+ beds)
• Active RN license in Indiana or Compact RN License
• Current BLS certification
  
  

Additional Details

• Patient ratios: 1:5-6
• Med Surg RNs may float to other medical units based on facility needs
• Dress Code: Caribbean Blue scrubs
