Information on RN Compact Licensure
Posted about 5 years ago by Sarah Hewitt
One of the questions that came up on our Spill the Tea session was about the RN Compact licensure which is set to go into effect on July 1. While we did not have the answer then, here is a link to where you can learn more on the application process:

Issues that I encountered during the process:
1) I also have a chest radiographer license in Indiana. Every time I clicked for an NLC application, it would tell me that I had to have an active RN license...which I do. I had to send my info to the folks at PLA and I wasn't the only one. I did get a response that my chest radiographer license was now merged to my nursing license and I was "all set".
2) After paying my fee and submitting my information, I received an email telling me that I needed a criminal background check. Be forewarned, this is a requirement and does cost money. It's frustrating that they cannot use Kentucky or Michigan or Illinois' background checks and fingerprints (which were also all paid for), but such is life.
Be prepared for a less than seamless process, but it will all be worth it in the end. For me, Kentucky is in the compact and Michigan is pending, so that should save some money and time.
Some folks may not realize it, but if doing any telephonic work with employees and they live in another state, you may be putting your licensure at risk if you are not also licensed in the state the employee lives in. I live on the border of three states and have employees who live in Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois, not to mention the remote workforce across the country. Rather than risking it, I got licensure in all three states. Don't think you're employer is going to protect you. This is YOUR responsibility.
